One of the most common questions we get is "Should I use powder or liquid extracts.
Both have their benefits and different people prefer one or the other, or in my case, I use both.
We are the exclusive New Zealand distributor of Life Cykel who have pioneered the use of high-quality, premium liquid extracts.
What's a liquid extract?
Liquid extracts, also known as tinctures are a common way to provide high-potency herbal medicines. In this case, the active constituents of the mushroom are suspended in a liquid medium.
Liquid extracts can be made with water or water and alcohol. The addition of alcohol allows constituents of the mushroom which are not water soluble to be released and accessible in the extract. That's why in the Life Cykel extracts, a double extraction (water and alcohol) process is used, which allows access to the greatest range of bioactive chemicals from the mushrooms.
Liquid extract benefits
The dual-extraction processes allows the greatest amounts of bioactive compounds to be present in the tincture in a concentrated form.
Easy to dose
Liquid extracts are really popular with practitioners because they are easy to dose and use.
Liquid extracts are also really popular with people, on-the-go as they are light, small, and easy to take with you anywhere.
Liquid extracts are able to hold and preserve (for up to 5+ years!) the many bioactive compounds that are released during the extraction process.
The body doesn’t need to digest anything other than the extracted bioactive chemicals. Liquid extracts only take 1-5 minutes to absorb, unlike capsules and tablets which can take up to 20-30 minutes to just break down, before the body can even start to absorb the active ingredients.
According to information from Life Cykel, the body can utilise up to 98% of liquid extracts, compared to the 39-53% of capsules!
Liquid or powders?
To be honest, we love both. I use powders in smoothies and added to soups and stocks. On the other hand, when travelling, or as a supplement added to coffee or other drinks, I use liquid extracts.
Try the liquid extracts and feel the difference (and let us know how you get on!)
